Popcaan Secures 10th UK Certification as “Saturnz Barz” Featuring Gorillaz Goes Silver

Dancehall heavyweight Popcaan has notched another major international win, as “Saturnz Barz,” his collaboration with Gorillaz, earns Silver Certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The accolade, awarded on March 20, recognises over 200,000 combined UK sales and streams, marking Popcaan’s 10th certified single in the market — a significant milestone that reinforces his enduring global footprint.

Originally released in March 2017 via Parlophone, “Saturnz Barz” features on Gorillaz’s critically acclaimed album Humanz and was recorded in Jamaica. The track stands as Popcaan’s second link-up with the genre-defying collective, blending dancehall textures with alternative, electronic and hip-hop influences. Its global appeal was immediate, peaking at No. 5 on the US Hot Rock Tracks chart and entering the UK Singles Chart, while also charting across territories including Canada, Portugal and New Zealand.

The latest BPI recognition adds to a growing list of UK-certified hits tied to the self-styled “Unruly Boss,” whose crossover appeal has been powered by strategic collaborations. From Gold-certified hits like “Come Over” with Jorja Smith and “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” with Jamie xx, to Silver plaques alongside acts such as Drake and AlunaGeorge, Popcaan has consistently bridged dancehall with mainstream global sounds.

Meanwhile, this latest Silver certification for “Saturnz Barz” further cements Popcaan’s status as one of Jamaica’s most internationally resonant voices. With a catalogue that continues to travel and evolve, the achievement signals not just longevity, but a blueprint for dancehall’s place within the global pop conversation.
