Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, says a portion of the $150 million owed to the National Water Commission, NWC, was inherited from the previous administration leading the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, KSAMC.
Last month, Nationwide News obtained documents outlining the debt.
According to the information obtained by our news centre, zero payments have been made toward the million-dollar debt across the KSAMC’s accounts.
Of the outstanding sum, close to $140 million stems from the operations of the KSAMC market on Pechon Street in downtown Kingston.
But Mayor Swaby says the corporation has been trucking water to the market for years.
