Portmore’s Mayor Pledges to Stop at Nothing to Prevent Parish Push

The mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas, says the municipal corporation will stop at nothing to prevent the Jamaica Labour Party administration from establishing the municipality as a parish.

He was addressing a town hall meeting at the Portmore HEART Academy on Sunday.

The bill to facilitate Portmore’s transition to parish status was passed along party lines in the Lower House on February 11.

It was approved by the Upper House last Friday.

But Mayor Thomas says the government did not do enough consultation with residents.
