Prime Minister Touts Port of Belize Expansion as Country’s Largest Infrastructure Project

Energy is one of the two sectors being supported by the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact. The Government is also moving forward with what the Prime Minister describes as the largest infrastructure project in Belize’s history, the expansion of the Port of Belize.  According to the Prime Minister said the undertaking will transform Belize City and generate wider benefits for the national economy.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “Next year, will also see the start of the largest infrastructure project in Belize’s history, the redevelopment of the Port of Belize in Belize City. Representing a potential investment of over $800 million, the project includes the deepening and widening of the marine access to Belize City, building brand new cargo facilities and finally erecting a modern cruise tourism gateway. This project will be transformative in a myriad of ways for Belize City and for the entire economy. Perhaps the most urgent benefit is that a new, modern, more efficient cargo port will reduce the shipping costs of imports and hopefully putting money back into the pockets of every Belizean family.”
