Prince Copious Gets 18 Months for Burglary at Audrey Matura’s Home

Prince Copious has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting that he burglarized the home of attorney Audrey Matura and stole several valuable items, including her licensed firearm.  After receiving credit for 224 days spent on remand and a reduction for his guilty plea, Copious has ten months and sixteen days remaining on his sentence.  The burglary occurred between April 19 and April 21, 2025, at Matura’s residence on Chetumal Boulevard in Belize City. Surveillance footage reportedly showed a man entering the second floor of the building through a bathroom window using a makeshift ladder. Matura’s son later identified the intruder as Copious, who had previously been employed to perform maintenance work at the property.  Among the stolen items were a nine-millimetre Ruger pistol valued at three thousand five hundred dollars, a magazine containing seven live rounds, jewellery, cosmetics, knives and other personal belongings. None of the items, including the firearm, has reportedly been recovered. Copious initially pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea after the trial began. He was remanded for sentencing after pleading guilty on August 11.  Matura described the sentence as too lenient, noting that Copious had been placed in a position of trust. She also expressed disappointment with the police investigation, particularly the failure to recover the firearm, which she fears could still be in circulation.  Matura claims Copious previously admitted his involvement while in police custody and provided information suggesting that other people were involved in receiving stolen property. She says she conducted her own inquiries and believes the burglary formed part of a wider scheme.
