Prince treble extends AC PoS lead to seven points

Aaliyah Prince netted a hat-trick to lead Athletic Club Port-of-Spain (AC PoS) to a 5-3 thumping of Trendsetter Hawks to stay four points clear at the top of the T&T Women’s League Football (WoLF) Trinidad Group standings on Sunday.

Aaqila Virgil stunned AC PoS when she fired Trendsetter Hawks into a shock lead in the eighth minute at the NUGFW Ground, Valsayn, but that was short-lived though as former national women’s team captain Tasha St Louis-Joseph got AC PoS back on level terms inside a minute and seven minutes later, the diminutive Prince put AC PoS ahead for the first time in the contest which they carried into the half-time interval.

AC PoS had a much more positive start in the second half and on the hour mark, St Louis-Joseph got her second goal of the match to push the lead to 3-1 before Prince added a quick second as well in the 63rd for a 4-1 margin, before Hackeeemar Goodridge kept Trendsetter Hawks in the contest by slicing the lead in the half at 4-2 with her first of the evening in the 65th.

With eight minutes left in the match, national midfielder Goodridge fired home her second of the match to pull Trendsetter Hawks within one goal, 4-3, but with a minute left in the match, Prince completed her hat-trick to seal the win for AC PoS, their tenth in 12 matches for 32 points, seven points clear of the University of T&T (UTT).

Defending champions Club Sando had a much easier time on the weekend as they picked up three points without breaking a sweat after Athletic International Academy forfeited their meeting at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella while Police got two goals from Shenelle Henry in the 35th, and 69th minutes, and one from Shakeema Forestine in the 82nd to beat Point Pioneers FC 3-0 at the Ken Cooke Ground in St James, Port-of-Spain.

Over in Tobago at the Mt Grace Recreation Ground, leaders Jewels SC edged third-placed Black Panthers 1-0 thanks to a goal from Madison Campbell to move to 29 points from their 12 matches, six more than Tobago Chicas, who won by default from cellar-placed Combined Ballerz.
