PSU Holds Off Industrial Action as Union Awaits Meeting With Labour Minister

Public Service Union (PSU) members are giving peace a chance as the union’s leadership awaits a meeting with recently installed Minister of Labour, Kareem Musa. While tensions have been rising over the transition of the Belize Tax Service Department (BTSD) to the newly established SARA, the union is holding back on immediate industrial action to allow discussions with the new minister to proceedLove News has been informed that the PSU held a virtual meeting on Wednesday to discuss its next steps. Based on conversations leading up to that meeting, the union has opted to engage with Minister Musa before escalating its response.  Unconfirmed reports to our newsroom indicate that the union had been prepared to initiate a sick-out within the public service today. However, that action is now on hold as the PSU seeks clarity on the way forward for public officers affected by the BTSD–SARA transition.  The union has expressed ongoing concern over the uncertainty surrounding job security, roles, and employment terms for officers impacted by the restructuring. Discussions with Minister Musa are expected to determine how the Government intends to address those concerns.  We will continue to follow this developing story.
