Public Health Director Says Essential Care Remains Free

The Director of Public Health is seeking to reassure Belizeans that access to essential healthcare services remains available and affordable across the country.  Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa says there is no requirement for residents to pay for medical consultations in order to obtain prescriptions for necessary medications within the public health system.  Her comments come amid growing public concern that patients may be forced to incur out-of-pocket costs just to access prescriptions for routine or critical treatment.  According to Dr. Diaz-Musa, the Ministry of Health continues to provide free access to a range of primary healthcare services through its network of clinics and public facilities nationwide. These services include consultations, basic medical assessments, and the issuing of prescriptions where needed.  She emphasized that the system is designed to ensure that no Belizean is denied care due to financial constraints, particularly when it comes to accessing essential medications.

Dr. Diaz-Musa further noted that while some specialized services may carry associated costs, the core public health offerings remain accessible, with the goal of safeguarding the wellbeing of all residents.
