We now take a brief break from criminal matters making their way through the courts to highlight a more uplifting occasion being observed across the public service. This week is being celebrated as Public Service Week, and at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, staff are being recognized for the important role they play in delivering services to the public. The week-long observance officially got underway yesterday with a complimentary breakfast for employees, one of several activities planned to show appreciation for the dedication and commitment of court staff. Similar activities are taking place at magistrates’ courts across the country, including in Belmopan, Corozal, San Ignacio, Dangriga, Independence, Punta Gorda and San Pedro. Acting Clerk of Court Denicia Vellair explained that each day of the week has been dedicated to a different activity aimed at boosting morale and recognizing the contributions of public officers who serve on the frontlines of the justice system. Among the activities planned are a Snack Cart Surprise, Staff Shout-Out Day, an Appreciation Day luncheon, and a Friday wind-down session featuring in-house activities for staff. Vellair says the initiative is designed to remind employees that their hard work often goes unnoticed but remains essential to the functioning of the courts and the wider public service. She added that Staff Shout-Out Day will allow colleagues to recognize one another through notes of appreciation highlighting leadership, teamwork, customer service and professionalism. The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has also set up a special Public Service Week backdrop where staff and members of the public can stop and take photographs throughout the week. Organizers say the activities are intended not only to celebrate public officers but also to strengthen camaraderie among employees.
