Plans are underway in Punta Gorda for this year’s Remembrance Day observance, as the Belize Ex-Servicemen League and the Toledo Police Formation prepare to honor the nation’s fallen service members. Speaking with our Toledo correspondent, Superintendent Brent Hamilton said the annual commemoration not only pays tribute to those who served in World Wars I and II, but also supports the families they left behind. He encouraged residents to join Sunday’s service at St. Peter Claver Church as PG stands in solidarity with ceremonies happening across the country.
Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Plans are in place for commemoration of Remembrance Day in Punta Gorda. Officer in command Toledo Police Formation Superintendent Brent Hamilton is a member of the coordinating committee.
Superintendent Brent Hamilton, Officer Commanding Toledo Police Formation: “To celebrate the Remembrance Day, I’d like to take back us a little bit of the history of how the Belize came about Remembrance Day. The Belize Ex servicemen League is non profit and non political and non governmental organization which governs by the ACT of 2001 number twenty eight of 2001. The league is a voluntary organization. The original members are who served home and abroad during WWI and WWII. If you notice on my shirt here we know that it’s a Poppy but it is known as the Scarlet the Wreath. This resembles three different things. One, when we wear it, it shows the remembrance of our fallen brothers or fallen sisters. Two, whenever you purchase this you help your fallen brothers and fallen sisters in the fundraising and so that we can support the widows of these fallen soldiers. Three, it is also to explain to our community what is the importance of having remembering this day. On Sunday, this Sunday they will have the official ceremony in Belize at the Memorial Park starting at 9 where the official ceremony of the Ex-Servicemen League at all the different security forces out there to lay a wreath at the Memorial Park. PG is no different so this Sunday we’re asking all Belizeans in Toledo celebrate and to Church with us at the St. Peter Claver church this Sunday at 8:30 and we’re asking for praise and worship for all our fallen brothers and sisters to pray for their family and we come out and we celebrate.”
Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Members of Belize Ex Services League Punta Gorda Branch and others nationwide along with retired soldiers and those BDF volunteers, regulars, Belize Coast Guard currently serving are happy to join other comrades in Belize and beyond in commemorating Remembrance Day 2025..
