The People’s United Party’s 75th Anniversary roving exhibition has arrived in Dangriga, bringing with it a curated journey through three quarters of a century of Belizean political history and nation-building. The exhibition, organized by the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), was officially opened on Saint Vincent Street in front of the building that once housed the Dangriga Call Center. The brief ceremony featured remarks from NICH representative Jovani Pinelo, Area Representative for Stann Creek West Rodwell Ferguson, Area Representative for Dangriga Dr. Louis Zabaneh, and Mayor of Dangriga Robert Mariano. Following the speeches, a ribbon-cutting formally declared the Dangriga leg of the exhibition open, after which Pinelo led guests on an exclusive first walk-through, explaining the storyline behind the panels, photographs, and artifacts on display. Love News spoke with Dr. Zabaneh on the importance of this traveling exhibition.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Dangriga Area Representative: “The exhibition has arrived in Dangriga. It’s on a tour across the country and we are grateful that NICH has put so much work into preparing this exhibition of the history of our party. And tonight we had an opening ceremony for the launch of this exhibit in Dangriga. Well, we must renew our commitment to the values, the funding values of our party that were instituted by the Right Honorable George Cadle Price, the Father of Our Nation. Values that have to do with hard work, with integrity, with standing up for what is right, with bringing people together to collaborate in a genuine way so we could achieve our objectives. And that was the essence of what I wanted to share here, that it is those values that have propelled our party over these years to serve our people. And that in this generation, we must ensure that we are strengthened by those values so so that we can deal with the challenges we have today. Those were some of the main points of what I shared tonight. The exhibition is amazing. It’s a small part of the entire work of the People’s United Party, but it is essential to be able to see the history from pre-1950 all the way through. All the persons who committed themselves and sacrificed for our country make it what it is today. And to ensure that we are able to use these principles and values to continue that process of development, the revolution continues.”
The traveling exhibition was first launched at the George Price Center in Belmopan on November 4, where it was introduced as a special 75th anniversary project highlighting the PUP’s role in shaping modern Belize, from its founding in 1950 amid the fight for social justice and workers’ rights, to leading the national movement for independence under the stewardship of the late Rt. Hon. George Price. Across its various stops, the exhibit brings together archival photographs, documents, and historical materials that trace the Party’s journey from colonial resistance to nation-building leadership and contemporary governance. The 75th anniversary exhibition is expected to remain on display in Dangriga until next Friday.
