PUP aspiring Corozal Town councillor candidate Tomas Zetina has withdrawn his candidacy after a police report alleging threats of death and assault. In a Facebook statement posted today, Zetina confirmed that he has withdrawn from the People’s United Party municipal convention, saying he is stepping aside because the matter is now before the courts. According to a police report, 28-year-old Iris Teresita Gonzalez reported that on Sunday night, she, Zetina and her cousin were returning from Chetumal when Zetina allegedly became aggressive. Police say that while passing the Mexican Immigration Building near the Belize Northern Border, he allegedly threatened the occupants. The report also alleges that when Gonzalez attempted to calm him down, Zetina grabbed her left forearm, causing pain, before pushing her hand away. Police say the vehicle later stopped at the Princess Vegas parking lot, where the other passenger exited. In his Facebook statement, Zetina maintains that he is innocent and says he believes the allegations against him are untrue. Love News reached out to both Zetina and the complainant for comment. However, both parties declined to comment, citing the matter’s pending status before the court.
