Raheem Sterling's representatives are seeking "clarity" about the forward's future at Chelsea after he didn't even make the bench for Sunday's Premier League opener against Manchester City.
The BBC has reported that his representatives noted in a statement that Sterling has a "good working relationship" with new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
His representatives also said there was an "expectation" he would be involved in Sunday's match at Stamford Bridge.
However, Maresca has downplayed the statement sent out by Sterling's representatives.
“It was a technical decision, no more than that,” Maresca said about Sterling being left out. "In the next day, we will clarify in case we need to," the Associated Press (AP) reported him as saying.
The AP noted that Chelsea bloated its already large squad even further by bringing in nine new players in the offseason, none of which started the season opener.
Maresca's first game in charge ended Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Manchester City.
