Ralford Mullings achieved a new national record and personal best in the men's discus after throwing 72.01 metres at the Oklahoma Throws Series in the US on Saturday.
He defeated Olympic champion Roje Stona who threw a personal best of 70.17m.
The previous Jamaican National Record of 70.78m was set by Fedrick Dacres in 2019.
Mullings was congratulated by the University of Oklahoma Track & Field and Cross Country programme, which noted that he was the second collegian in history to throw beyond 70 meters in the men’s discus.
