Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ravi Ratiram, has presented Letters of Appointment to members of the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Board at the Ministry’s head office.
The appointments were made during a ceremony held today. Ratiram said the Board will carry out its mandate in relation to the veterinary profession and the agricultural sector.
Appointed to the Board are Dr Lisa Musai, Chairman; Dr Anil Ramnanan, Member; and Dr Kriyaan Singh, Member.
The Veterinary Surgeons Registration Board is responsible for overseeing the registration and conduct of veterinary practitioners. The Board also monitors compliance with standards governing veterinary practice and supports measures related to animal health and food production.
Ratiram congratulated the appointees and stated that the Ministry will work with the Board in executing its functions under the law.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries stated that the Board will continue its work in maintaining regulatory oversight of the profession. The Ministry also stated that the appointments form part of its programme for administration of the veterinary sector.
The Board operates under the legal framework governing veterinary surgeons and is tasked with matters relating to licensing, discipline and professional practice.
Ratiram said the Ministry remains engaged with stakeholders in agriculture and veterinary services and will support the work of the Board in carrying out its responsibilities.
