The battle for spots on Jamaica’s team to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo Japan in September and other global and Continental Championships, gets underway in earnest on Thursday, the opening day of the JAAA’s four day National Trials at the National Stadium.
The Championship opens at 9am with the senior men’s 100m qualification, the quarter-finals are set for later in the evening along with those of the Women featuring Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce in her final appearance ever at these championships.
In addition to the hundreds, the opening day will also feature action in the 800m men and women, the 400m hurdles and the flat 400m.
President of the JAAA’s Garth Gayle told Nationwide Sports that he is looking forward to watching the country’s best athletes battle it out over four days.

A record 720 athletes have entered for the Championships, up from the 647 who took part last year.
Nationwide 90fm will have coverage of the Championships with live commentary of all the evening sessions starting Friday.
