Residents of Portland and surrounding areas are being encouraged to come out in their numbers to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Universal Service Fund (USF) at a one-of-a-kind Wi-Fi Watch Party, on June 14.

The Watch Party, the flagship event in a series of islandwide activities marking the milestone, promises a fun-filled, family-friendly evening of entertainment and community connection under the theme ‘Connected at 20, Committed for a Lifetime’.

Speaking with JIS News recently, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at the USF, Dana DeCordova-Denton, said the event will be held at Litchfield Park in Port Antonio, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

“This celebration is not just about connectivity through devices; it’s about connecting with each other. We want to show that technology can bring people together not only for learning and work but for shared experiences,” Mrs. DeCordova-Denton said.

Patrons will enjoy an outdoor cinema experience featuring the acclaimed Bob Marley: One Love movie, streamed over free public Wi-Fi provided by the USF.

Guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets to settle in for the evening.

In addition to the movie screening, the event will feature a complimentary drink bar for all attendees, traditional games zone with Ludo and dominoes and an exciting virtual reality experience for students and young tech enthusiasts.

Mrs. DeCordova-Denton said the event also aims to raise awareness of the USF’s ongoing work in providing internet access and ICT resources to underserved communities across Jamaica.

The Watch Party is part of a larger campaign, which includes the rollout of 20 new Community Wi-Fi locations across the island.
