Retired Teacher Receives Partial Disclosure in Fatal Traffic Case

A 67-year-old retired teacher accused in a fatal traffic case has been provided with partial disclosure and is expected to return to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on January 13 for the remainder of her disclosure.  Edilma Aguilar, of the Lords Bank area in Ladyville, appeared today before the Chief Magistrate.  The court confirmed that her Preliminary Inquiry (PI) is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27.  Aguilar was previously provided with partial disclosure totaling 59 pages during a court appearance in August 2025. Aguilar is charged with manslaughter by negligence and causing death by careless conduct in connection with a fatal road traffic accident involving Armando Moralez.  Police reports indicate that the incident occurred on March 16, 2024, at the junction of Lords Bank Road and the Hollywood area. Investigators allege that Aguilar was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup when Moralez, who was riding a yellow tricycle, collided with the vehicle and fell, sustaining severe injuries. Moralez later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead that same evening.  Following statements and a review of the case file, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions directed that Aguilar be charged. She was first arraigned on April 16, 2025, initially on a charge of causing death by careless conduct.  The case will proceed with the continuation of disclosure on January 13, ahead of the scheduled Preliminary Inquiry later this month.
