Robbery suspect found dead in St Joseph police cell

A man arrested in connection with a robbery was found dead inside a cell at the St Joseph Police Station.
Capildave Mootoo, of Temple Street, Bamboo Settlement #2, Valsayn, was held by police around 11 pm on July 28 following an alleged robbery in the area. Officers searched him before placing him alone in a cell.
During a routine check at around 4.50 am, officers found Mootoo kneeling with a makeshift noose around his neck, fashioned from a jersey. He was bareback and wearing only black and white plaid boxer shorts.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene and officially pronounced him dead.
Police have since launched an investigation.
