Robbery suspect found dead in station cell

Officers from the St Joseph Police Station are probing the death of a robbery suspect inside a cell there.

Police said Capildave Mootoo, of Temple Street, Bamboo Settlement #2, Valsayn, was arrested around 11 pm on July 28, following an alleged robbery in the area.

He was later taken to the St Joseph Police Station, where he was searched and placed in a cell by himself.

Following a routine check around 4.50 am yesterday, Mootoo was seen in a kneeling position with a makeshift noose around his neck.

Investigations are continuing into the matter. —ANNA-LISA PAUL
