Rosaura Chan Elected New NAVCO President

The National Association of Village Councils (NAVCO) has a new president following elections held during its Annual General Meeting on Saturday at the Civic Center in Belmopan.  Delegates from the six district associations of village councils cast a total of 60 votes, electing Rosaura Chan, Chairlady of San Estevan Village, to lead the organization for a three-year term. She replaces outgoing president Delroy Valerio.  The election process was presided over by Director of Rural Transformation Charles Galvez and had oversight from Senior Justice of the Peace Kent Fuller and past NAVCO president Orlando Dawson.  In her acceptance remarks, Chan pledged fairness in the handling of matters affecting village councils and committed to working diligently for rural communities across the country.

Chan noted that collaboration and balanced consideration of issues will guide her tenure.  Love News understands the NAVCO board also includes representation from all six districts. The remaining executive posts, including vice president, treasurer and secretary, will be filled when the newly elected board holds its first meeting.  The AGM also featured an address from Minister of Rural Transformation Oscar Requena.
