BESET by Mouttet Mile runners since beating INSPIRE FORCE and NEO STAR in April, last year’s derby runner-up, RUN JULIE RUN, faces another tough American, RIDEALLDAY, in Saturday’s Poorlittlerichgirl at seven and a half furlongs.
After avoiding superior foreigners in December by outclassing SHE’S A GOD GIFT in the Chairman’s Plate on Mouttet Mile Day, RUN JULIE RUN was forced to leave her safe haven after following up by landing the Miracle Man on New Year’s Day.
On her Ides of March return from a two-month break, Mouttet Mile runners started taking turns at RUN JULIE RUN, first COMMANDANT then BARNABY, before she caught a cheap open-allowance field, four rivals, easily putting away INSPIRE FORCE and NEO STAR at nine furlongs and 25 yards late April.
However, the foreign tormentors returned to haunt RUN JULIE RUN in her next three races, first beaten into fourth by COMMANDANT, followed by runner-up efforts behind FUNCAANDUN and DESERT OF MALIBU, respectively.
RUN JULIE RUN was simply roasted by DESERT OF MALIBU coming off the home turn at seven and a half furlongs when last out July 5, chasing spits of 34.4, 46.3 and 58.4. In her previous race, RUN JULIE RUN was actually gaining on FUNCAANDUN at nine furlongs and 25 yards, forcing Robert Halledeen to drift the Mouttet Mile champion into her path inside the final half-furlong.
With those two encouraging efforts against superior rivals under her girth, RUN JULIE RUN has seemingly caught a break in the Poorlittlerichgirl with no formidable Mouttet Mile-quality runner among her eight rivals.
However, the four-year-old native filly could be up against another mountain, in-form American, RIDEALLDAY, who has not lost a race from three tries this summer since returning from a five-month lay-up in early June.
A Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited-owned runner, racing in the colours of the promoting company’s chairman, Solomon Sharpe, RIDEALLDAY has looked particularly sharp since stretched out for his last two wins with lasix administered, especially his July 19 win at a mile.
Moving as a team with GIRVANO, who returned to frank the form with a runaway victory among overnight-allowance runners on Wednesday, RIDEALLDAY clocked a solid 1:40.4 at a mile, leaving his fellow American seven lengths behind.
As an improving American, who possibly should have already been rubbing shoulders with his peers in grade one, RIDEALLDAY’s strong finish, which won him four races from five starts, will be lethal coming out the mile chute.
RUN JULIE RUN’s pace could give her the jump on RIDEALLDAY and RHYTHM BUZZ, who signalled his return to form with a strong mile in 1:39.3, running into a headwind on June 14.
RUN JULIE RUN actually pressed DESERT OF MALIBU for a half-mile in 46.3 and wasn’t too far off 58.4 at the top of the lane on July 5. DESERT OF MALIBU won by seven lengths, clocking 1:32.3 for seven and a half furlongs.
Carrying the form three weeks later, July 26, DESERT OF MALIBU lost by a short head to FUNCAANDUN in the She’s A Maneater at a mile, a marker race, which gives RUN JULIE RUN a sound shot at stealing away from slower rivals, especially if she gets first run on expected leader, WALL STREET TRADER.
