Unbeaten St Mary’s College will defend their lead at the top of the 17-team Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Boys Premier Division when they travel to Mucurapo Road, St. James, to face North Zone rival and former champions Fatima College in a crucial Round Seven encounter on Wednesday (October 7).

Despite dropping their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with a surprise package so far this season in promoted Hillview College, the Cornell Glen-coached ‘Saints’ sit atop the standings with 16 points from six matches, their best start ever since the inception of the new format of the competition, to lead second placed Signal Hill Secondary by one point with former winners St Benedict’s College third with 13 points, one ahead of early pace setters Arima North Secondary with Fatima College, a further point behind in the fifth spot, and Hillview College sixth with ten.

At Mucurapo Road, Glen and his team, led by Jaedon Thomas and Zaa’van Joseph, with three goals each, will face a stern challenge in Fatima College, who are coming off of two impressive wins against defending champions, Naparima College (2-1), and Arima North Secondary (5-0), the latter encounter inspired by a hat-trick from the league’s leading scorer, Jaheim Bailey, his third of the season, to move to 12 goals in six matches.

Over in Tobago, Signal Hill Secondary will hope to capitalize on any slip-up by the Saints when they go after a third straight win at home against the visiting Queen’s Royal College, who will be buoyed by their 1-1 draw with St. Benedict’s College in the last encounter.

Down at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, another highly anticipated encounter between St Benedict’s College and Hillview College, with both teams mindful of falling further behind the table toppers with the halfway stage of the tournament fast approaching.

In other key matches, Naparima College and St Augustine Secondary, both with seven points and coming off of convincing wins, meet at St Augustine Secondary School Ground, Warren Street, St Augustine, while Presentation College of San Fernando and Trinity College of Moka, both with seven points as well, meet at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.
