The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) has announced the permanent closure of the San Fernando North Community Library from March 21, 2026.

In a public notice, NALIS stated that the closure is part of a move to a larger facility in San Fernando where library and information services will be delivered. The current location at the San Fernando North Community Centre will cease operations as the collection is prepared for transfer.

NALIS said the process includes decanting materials ahead of a merger of services at the new site. The authority noted that the change is intended to support service delivery from a single location.

Members of the public are being directed to access services at other NALIS locations during the transition period. Users may also access online resources through the NALIS website.

NALIS confirmed that the new facility will be located at Harris Promenade. An opening date has not been announced. The authority said updates will be provided.

The notice advised that the closure forms part of a plan to expand space for collections and services. NALIS stated that the new location will accommodate operations currently offered at the San Fernando North branch.

The authority acknowledged the impact of the closure and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.

The San Fernando North Community Library has served users from surrounding communities. NALIS said it will continue to provide access to library and information services through its network during the transition.
