San Pedro Fire Leaves Nineteen Families Displaced

Police are investigating a fire in San Pedro Town that has left nineteen families displaced.  The incident occurred last night just before 8:00, when authorities responded to reports of a house fire on Marina Drive. Upon arrival, police observed a large plycem structure, measuring approximately 57 by 33 feet, fully engulfed in flames.  Fire personnel were able to bring the blaze under control; however, the building and all its contents were completely destroyed.  Initial investigations reveal that the fire may have started around 7:35 p.m. when 31-year-old Naisy Chi was cooking, and a gas hose reportedly became disconnected from the tank. This caused a rug to ignite, allowing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the house.  At the time of the incident, ten adults and nine children were inside the building. All occupants were successfully alerted and evacuated, and no injuries were reported.  Police say the property was not insured, and the full extent of the damage has not yet been determined.
