San Pedro Supermarket Burglarized and Set Ablaze Days After Opening

Just three days after its grand opening, the Island Supermarket in San Pedro was targeted in an early morning burglary, which turned into an arson. On Sunday morning, Island Supermarket in north San Pedro was burglarized by individuals described as wearing camouflage raincoats. Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent, gave us a report on the incident in this afternoon’s Police Press Briefing.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “On Sunday, 14 December 2025, at approximately four o’clock a.m., San Pedro Police were informed that smoke was observed coming out from a business establishment, namely Island Supermarket, which is located in the Tres Cocos area of San Pedro Town. The officers responded and they in fact observed smoke coming out of the building and the personnel from the fire department arrived shortly thereafter and were able to extinguish the fire. What the investigation has disclosed so far is that two male persons with the use of force entered that building and they began to set a fire in one of the aisle of the supermarket. The footage has been retrieved, they are being reviewed and as progress is made in relation to this investigation, that information will be shared. It was four o’clock a.m. in the morning. I don’t know how trafficked it is at that point in time. However, thankfully we are that somebody was able to notice the smoke and call for the police and the fire department so that it was extinguished.”

Local police have launched an investigation into the crime. No injuries have been reported, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
