The four day West Indies Cricket Championship bowls off on Wednesday with Jamaica Scorpions facing Windward Islands Volcanoes at Arnos Vale starting at 9 am Jamaica time.

The Scorpions had a dismal showing last year and will be aiming to show the form which took them to the final of the regional limited overs tournament late last year.

In other opening round games, champions Guyana Harpy Eagles battle Barbados Pride at Providence in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force are at home to Combined Campuses and College at Brian Lara Academy and Leeward Islands Hurricanes take on West Indies Academy at Coolidge in Antigua.

Seven rounds of matches will be played throughout the season with each team playing the other once for the Headley/Weeks trophy and the top prize of US$250,000 and the runner up, US$100,000.

There will be several innovations in the upcoming season including the return of first innings points in drawn matches, the use of Kookaburra balls for two rounds and at least one pink ball day/night fixture per team.
