South East St. Catherine MP, Robert Miller, is seeking to assure residents of Portmore that the municipality will be transformed into the country’s 15th parish.
He made the comment at a Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, area council meeting in Mountain View, St. Andrew on Sunday.
The comment follows a court ruling last Friday, lifting an injunction which had blocked the government from proceeding with the push to make Portmore a parish.
The People’s National Party, PNP, had filed a lawsuit earlier this month to block Portmore from being declared a parish.
Both the JLP and PNP have welcomed the ruling, with each side claiming vindication in the court’s decision.
Opposition spokesman with responsibility for matters concerning Portmore, Fitz Jackson, says the Supreme Court’s order affirms the PNP’s stance that the JLP’s efforts were a blatant breach of the constitutional process.
But according to Miller, the PNP’s claim to victory is chaotic.
