Rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were found guilty in their federal trial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Friday. Kingston, 35, and Turner, 61, were convicted on four counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, The Washington Times reported.
The US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida said in a July 2024 release that Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, and Turner were involved in a scheme to defraud sellers of high-end speciality vehicles, jewellery, and other goods through the use of fraudulent documents.
They both face up to 20 years in prison on each count.
According to the indictment Kingston and Turner obtained in excess of US$1 million in property under false pretences, claiming they made bank transfers or wire payments that they didn’t actually make.
The Washington Times said Turner was immediately taken into custody following the verdict on Friday, Kingston’s sister offered US$200,000 in bail, with his aunt proffering her home as collateral. He will be kept on house arrest, according to CBS News.
Kingston's official Instagram hailed Turner in a post to Stories, calling her "My only queen forever". The post continued, "Love you!!! I promise you this is not the end".
The mother and son are due for sentencing on July 11.
