Grammy-winning artiste Sean Paul is seeking to provide an encouraging sense of hope and optimism through his new single Faith We A Keep. In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, from which the single was inspired, Sean Paul wrapped all his emotions and experiences in the track, which he said is not just another song for him. The artiste was among the earliest members of the entertainment industry to offer assistance to those affected.

“It’s a reflection of what I’ve been seeing and feeling on the ground here at home, in Jamaica, since Hurricane Melissa. The strength, resilience, and faith of the people have been inspiring, and that energy feeds directly into how I deliver the song,” Sean Paul told The Gleaner.

The singer, who first performed the single at last Friday’s Jamaica Strong Benefit Concert, said he mostly desired for the people to “feel the message” in performing that particular single.

“I want [them] to understand that this is a time for unity, healing and hope. The emotion behind the song naturally elevates the experience and I expected it to be one of those moments that stays with people long after the show is over,” said the singjay.

The show was geared towards garnering donations for Jamaicans who were impacted by the hurricane, and saw several local and international celebrities joining forces for one cause.

Sean Paul said he hoped to see some “real, tangible impact” from the concert, which took place at UBS Arena in New York.

“Whether it’s rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods or simply reminding people that they’re not forgotten, that’s what matters most … . If the outcome is renewed hope and continued support for those affected, then we’ve done something truly meaningful,” said Sean Paul.

The Afrobeat-infused single was produced by Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock Productions.

“I hope it serves as reassurance. After something as devastating as this hurricane, it’s easy for people to feel overwhelmed or discouraged. This song is meant to remind them that, even in the darkest moments, faith, perseverance, and community can carry us through,” he said.

“Jamaicans have always been a resilient people, and Faith We A Keep speaks directly to that spirit. This song is my prayer, my encouragement and my tribute to the resilience of our people and letting all know, together, we will get through it,” he added.

He said the track is also for anyone “who currently feels their back is against the wall. Faith We A Keep [and] you must pull through”.

As Christmas approaches, Sean Paul said, he also wants the song to remind people of the true meaning of the season.

“[It’s about] love, compassion and unity. Even if times are tough, faith can bring comfort and strength. My hope is that the song becomes a source of encouragement, something families can lean on as they move forward together into a new chapter,” he said.
