A massive search effort was underway yesterday to find a 48-year-old woman who was “swept away” in a river.

Police officers, as well as members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, were up to late yesterday evening searching for Tara Lochansingh in the Matura River.

Police said around 4.30 pm, Lochansingh was with around ten to 15 family members celebrating the Emancipation Day holiday at the river when she and a six-year-old relative got into difficulties.

The six-year-old girl was rescued; however, Lochansingh was swept away in the swollen river following heavy rainfall.

Up to late evening, a large team was searching for Lochansingh, who lives in Navet Village, Rio Claro. —Jensen La Vende
