Following the massive turnout for phase one of the Jamaica Entertainers and Creatives Insurance Plan, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange says phase two will launch in early February.
While a date has not yet been solidified, Grange says she is aiming for the first or second week of the month.
“We did launch the life insurance late last year, so now we’re launching the health insurance where every member of the sector who signs up to the E-Registry can sign up for the health insurance and have a health card. You can get your prescription, you can take it to the doctor. It will cover a number of things, loss of limb, dental, it’s just gonna be a wide range of services that you can access with your health card," said Grange.
She continued, “We are also making a list of those who are too old to take up the insurance because of their age so that we can have them access services that are available through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. So there’s the pension and there are other services and also through the Ministry of Health.”
While there are no official numbers on the uptake of the life insurance launched in November, Grange says she is optimistic as she awaits the report.
“Between the insurance company and the entertainment division, they are preparing a status report on it for me,” she said nodding and smiling.
