Secret Beach to Join National Electricity Grid Under BEL-BTB Partnership

Secret Beach on Ambergris Caye is set to be connected to the national electricity grid through a partnership between Belize Electricity Limited and the Belize Tourism Board. The project will extend electricity services to the growing destination, where businesses have been relying on fuel-powered generators.  The two entities note that the connection will help businesses cut operating costs while reducing generator noise and emissions. Better lighting is also expected to improve visibility and safety for residents, workers and visitors, and give restaurants and other establishments the option to stay open later.  They added that the expansion will support the area’s growth and could encourage further investment and local business development.  As work gets underway, BEL and BTB say they will coordinate with residents and businesses.
