Security Guard Reports Break In at Belize City Apartment

Police are investigating a burglary reported in Belize City yesterday morning in which a security guard returned home to find his apartment broken into and several personal items stolen.  Forty-four-year-old Naton Augustin, a Belizean security guard who resides at the corner of Iguana Street and Welch Street, told investigators he secured his apartment around nine in the morning, and left the premises. However, when he returned about an hour and a half later, he found the door open and the hasp and staple removed and lying on the floor.  Upon entering, Augustin noticed several items missing, including a green-and-white Black and Decker iron valued at ninety dollars, a brown knapsack valued at forty dollars, and a black Nokia cellular phone along with its charger valued at a combined one hundred seventy dollars. The total loss is estimated at three hundred Belize dollars.  Police visited and processed the scene, indicating that no fingerprints were recovered, but surveillance footage from the area was reviewed and investigators obtained information they consider useful to the case.
