The Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has announced that Senator Delano Seiveright and Christian Tavares-Finson have formally withdrawn their applications to stand as the party’s standard-bearer in North Central St. Andrew ahead of the next general elections.

The announcement was made following a meeting of the JLP’s central executive on Sunday.

In a statement on Sunday, the JLP says the move comes after an internal review and is aimed at allowing for a reset of the candidate selection process.

Chairman of the JLP’s communication task force, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley, says a consultation with party members is set for the coming days.

North Central St. Andrew is represented in parliament by the JLP’s Karl Samuda.

On May 13, Senator Seiveright, who is also state minister in the Ministry of Tourism, suspended his campaign for the seat.

Attorney Christian Tavares-Finson, was widely expected to be named as Karl Samuda’s heir. But that plan was turned on its head by Seiveright’s declaration on Good Friday that he had written to the party formally applying for the seat.
