The Jamaica Hockey Federation field is set to host a jam-packed night of decisive matches with semi-final spots at stake in both the male and female divisions of the Danny James Invitational, on Friday.
In the women’s division, the action begins with a marquee showdown between first-place Tropics Hockey Club and third-place Excelsior Hockey Club at 6pm.
Tropics have already secured their spot in the semifinals after back-to-back victories, including a 4-0 thrashing of Explorers Hockey Club in the first week and a 3-0 whipping of Sharpe’s last weekend.
Excelsior, unbeaten so far with two draws, will need at least a point from this match and hope for a strong performance in their second game of the night to confirm their place in the top four.
A loss in this fixture would put them under pressure heading into their second match.
A desperate clash unfolds between St. Andrew’s Strikers and Explorers Hockey Club in the second match.
Both teams have struggled for consistency—Strikers with a draw and a loss, Explorers with two draws and a loss—but are still in the hunt for the final semi-final berth.
For either side to advance, a win is essential, coupled with a favourable result elsewhere.
The evening’s double-duty task falls on Excelsior Hockey Club, who return to the turf to take on Sharpe’s Hockey Club.
Sharpe’s, currently second in the standings, will be looking to bounce back after a tough Week Two, which saw them draw nil-all with Explorers and fall 3-0 to Tropics.
A win will guarantee Sharpe’s a semi-final spot, while a draw may be enough depending on other results.
