President of the Senate, Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, represented Belize at the second Parliamentary Summit on Climate Change and Just Transition in Brasilia, Brazil. The 2-day summit brought together parliamentarians from across Latin America and the Caribbean to foster regional collaboration and align legislative strategies in advance of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30). A key outcome of the summit will be the presentation of a Letter of Support for the Brazilian COP30 Presidency and a Joint Declaration by the OPCC. These documents, to be formally submitted at COP30, will reaffirm the region’s legislative commitment to climate action. COP30, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is scheduled for November 2025 in Belém, Brazil. Organized by the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC), a joint initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Open Society Foundations, the event was co-hosted by the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate of Brazil.
