Senator Calls on PNP to Credit Gov’t For Murder Reduction

4 months ago 26

Government senator, Marlon Morgan, is calling on the opposition People’s National Party to give the government credit as the country continues to record a decrease in murders.

The country has recorded a 36 per cent reduction in murders since the start of the year.

According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s crime data, 191 homicides had been committed across the island up to April 5. That’s 107 fewer than the 298 murders recorded in the corresponding period last year.

Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting, recently acknowledged the work of the police commissioner, Dr. Kevin Blake, and his team for the downturn in murders.

But he again took the opportunity to criticise the government for its policy of using states of emergency as a crime fighting tool.

Senator Morgan says it’s absurd the opposition would blame the government for a spike in murders but refuse to give it credit when murders decline.
