Government Senator Dr. Saphire Longmore, has blasted the Opposition PNP for what she sees as chauvinistic attacks against her.
Dr. Longmore, used the debate of the Jamaica Teaching Council Bill to address what she considered a tangential but personal matter.
It follows her raising concerns over the decision making of Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, during her State of the Nation debate contribution last year.
Colliecia Wright, tells us more.
During her State of the Nation Debate earlier this year, Dr. Saphire Longmore, made reference to a skit at a PNP meeting in Kingston where Mark Golding held a chain around the neck of a black, dreadlocked man.
The skit was intended to present Golding as a champion of the oppressed who frees them from bondage.
However, Dr. Longmore says the optics were bad and causes her to question Mark Golding’s judgement.
She likened that critique to the professional standards now being set for teachers through the Jamaica Teaching Council.
Dr. Longmore, says this formed part of her civic and professional duty as a government senator.
She says she’s received chauvinistic attacks from the PNP due to her divorce.
