Senator Slams Opposition Spokesman for ‘Habitual False Utterances’

Government senator, Dr. Elon Thompson, has blasted opposition spokesman on health, Dr. Alfred Dawes, for what he says are his habitual false and untrustworthy utterances.

Dr. Thompson was reacting to Dr. Dawes’ latest round of questions about the procurement of a $31 million drill for Bustamante Hospital for Children.

At a media briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Alfred Dawes called for the auditor general and Integrity Commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the procurement.

He claimed the purchase was done by a company that is owned in part by attorney-at-law and member of parliament of parliament, MP, Donovan Williams.

Williams, the MP for Central Kingston, has issued a statement rejecting the claim. He has demanded an apology from Dr. Dawes and says he has instructed his attorneys to examine the comments for defamation.

Dr. Dawes also claimed the same company, which he says is owned by MP Williams, had previously brought two other drills into the country at significantly lower costs.

But according to Senator Thompson, Alfred Dawes has a record of misleading the public.
