Operations at the elite security outfit are expected to be taken over by a new director, with Snr Supt Alicia Henry tipped to assume the role.
While security officials remained tight-lipped about the appointment yesterday, Henry responded with a gracious “many thanks” when offered congratulations late on Monday.
She, however, declined to confirm whether she had been selected as the newest head of the Strategic Services Agency (SSA).
Barrington, a former head of the Special Branch, was appointed director on April 1, a move announced by former Prime Minister Stuart Young during his first post-Cabinet news conference.
If confirmed, Henry will become the first woman to hold the post.
A career intelligence officer within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Henry currently serves as Senior Superintendent in charge of the Special Branch, another elite unit responsible for national security intelligence within the TTPS.
Before returning to the Special Branch a few weeks ago, she headed the Police Academy at Saaman Drive, St James.
