September celebrations theme unveiled with Amber Mariano awarded as the author

The countdown to Belize’s 45th anniversary of Independence officially began this afternoon with the unveiling of the theme that will guide this year’s September Celebrations. During a brief 30-minute ceremony held at the House of Culture in Belize City, the National Celebrations Commission introduced the Belize@45 theme: “Look at Me, I Am Belize at 45.”  Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner delivered the welcome address and reflected on the shared identity of Belizeans that will serve as the common thread connecting communities from every corner of the country throughout this year’s celebrations.

Minister of Culture and Chairman of the National Celebrations Commission, Francis Fonseca, reflected on the significance of marking 45 years of independence at a time when many countries continue to grapple with conflict and instability. Fonseca said Belizeans should never take for granted the nation’s enduring peace, democracy, and unity.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the theme and recognition of its author.  It is a theme that will now headline activities leading up to and throughout Belize’s September Celebrations.  Amber Mariano, a law student at St. John’s Junior College, is the theme author who says it is meant to be a reminder to all Belizeans that we are all Belize.

The ceremony featured musical selections by the Belize Defence Force Ensemble and welcomed government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of cultural organizations, and invited guests./
