Shanieka Ricketts Jumps to Season’s Best to Win Rome Triple Jump

Shanieka Ricketts ticked off her second straight victory on the current Wanda Diamond League circuit with a season best performance in the Women’s Triple Jump in Rome on Friday.

The Olympic silver medallist from Paris, landed the event with 14.64m, slightly behind the 14.72m she did to win in Doha, Qatar on May 16.

The other Jamaican winner in the Italian capital came in the women’s 400m hurdles, as Andrenette Knight stormed to victory in 53.67 seconds. Fellow Jamaicans Rushell Clayton and Shian Salmon were third and seventh in 54.31 seconds and 55.47 seconds respectively.

Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell had to settle for third in the men’s shot put with 21.64m, Tom Walsh of New Zealand won with 21.89m.

Carey McLeod was fifth in the men’s long jump with 8.01m, while in the men’s sprint hurdles Orlando Bennett clocked a season best 13.29 seconds for fourth, while Omar McLeod was 8th in 13.58 seconds.

In the men’s 100m Trayvon Bromell of the United States ran a world leading 9.84 seconds.
