MANCHESTER, England (CMC):

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s second-half assist helped Manchester City secure a 2-0 victory over Everton when the Women’s Super League (WSL) restarted yesterday.

It was City’s 11th consecutive win in 12 games, and helped City maintain their six-point lead over defending champions Chelsea, while ensuring they started 2026 on a winning note following the Christmas break.

Everton had initially frustrated City at the Joie Stadium as goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan produced fine stops to deny Shaw and Miedema.

However, Brazilian forward Kerolin opened the scoring for the home side in the 26th minute after left-back Maz Pacheco allowed her too much space, allowing her to unleash a low shot from a tight angle, which took a big deflection off Martina Fernandez to deceive Brosnan.

Moments later, Fernandez thought she had equalised when she fired high into the net from a few yards out, but Everton’s Ruby Mace was harshly deemed to have impeded City goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita on the line.

City extended their lead in the 63rd minute after Shaw deftly chipped the ball into the path of Miedema, who picked her spot beyond Brosnan to make it 2-0.

With that assist, Shaw, the leading goalscorer in the WSL this season with 12 goals so far, now has four assists, tied for third.
