Mr Supranational Jamaica 2025, Shevauni Powell, is currently in Poland representing Jamaica at the ninth staging of the Mister Supranational competition, set to crown its winner on Saturday. The international male pageant highlights modelling talent, cultural exchange, leadership, and advocacy. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches, Powell is embracing the experience, describing it as a platform to promote positive change and cultural awareness.
“Supranational is a real word,” he affirmed. “Actually, it means having power and influence beyond the borders of your own country. Being selected as a Mr Supranational has humbled me. It’s a mixed feeling of pride and excitement. I’m just trying my best to embrace every opportunity to learn and also inspire as I take on this new journey,” he said.
Powell’s decision to participate in the Mister Supranational competition was based on the encouragement of a friend. Although, initially, he was hesitant.
“I did some research and realised that it is a good opportunity to represent the country, for my self-development and also to inspire others,” he explained, adding, “This is my first time in a pageant, so a whole lot has been happening. I had the opportunity of being exposed to stage experience in Atlanta. It was my first time travelling.”
An employee of JN Bank, he made a courtesy call recently on Earl Jarrett, chief executive officer of the Jamaica National Group, who told him that “the world is now your oyster so whatever opportunities come, grab it”.
Jarrett encouraged him to be open-minded and ready to embrace all that lies ahead.
Powell began as a summer worker at the then Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) after graduating from Mile Gully High School – one of six rural institutions in the Centres of Excellence programme, jointly funded by JNBS and Victoria Mutual. He served as head boy and was named Student of the Year, receiving the award from Earl Jarrett, who was the guest speaker at the time.
Powell is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of Technology, Jamaica.
The Mister Supranational 2025 finals will be held in Nowy Sącz, Malopolska, Poland and the live show will be broadcast from the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater. The reigning Mister Supranational, Fezile Mkhize from South Africa, will sash his successor at the end of the event.
