The Grace Food Festival turned Hope Gardens into a stage of music, memories, and heartfelt tributes last Saturday. The evening was a powerful mix of food, community, and show-stopping sets from some of Jamaica’s most loved entertainers. From the soulful to the high-energy, each act brought their own flavour to the stage, solidifying the festival’s growing reputation as a must-attend summer staple.
Prince Saj kicked things off with a high-energy gospel set that immediately engaged the more than 4,600 patrons in attendance. Known for his powerful delivery and infectious energy, he uplifted patrons with hits like Fully Jesus and Jesus Story.
Reggae fusion singer, Joby Jay, the night’s only female performer, proved she could more than hold her own, delivering hits like Cool Breeze and Big Girl Ting to an eager crowd.
“I was very excited when my team told me I was booked for this show because I genuinely love Grace – mi love Grace tings,” Joby Jay shared. “The crowd was amazing, singing along and giving me good vibes, so I’m just very, very grateful to be part of this festival!”
With a new collaboration with Conkarah titled Let Me Know and more music on the way, Joby Jay says she sees her career continuing to elevate, with dreams of touring, global hits, and inspiring others through her artistry.
Carrying the spirit of inspiration forward, Rondell Positive delivered a powerful set that blended energy, reverence, and message. With his trademark dynamic stage presence, he moved seamlessly between praise and performance, creating moments that had the crowd both singing along and reflecting.
Christopher Martin had the audience in full voice from the moment he stepped on stage. Rolling through fan favourites like Cheaters Prayer and Big Deal, Martin delivered a smooth yet electrifying set.
“I always love when the crowd sings along with me, so we give thanks every time for that. I’ve been on many Grace stages, and their shows are always good energy and good vibes, so it’s definitely a Good Move,” he shared.
“His performance was excellent. He’s a consistent artiste, and what I love about him is that he is always involved with him audience. I’ve been following him from Rising Stars days, so from that time I have been a fan, so me and my niece had to come out come see him tonight!,” shared Natoya Campbell, who was front and centre for Martin’s performance alongside her niece Amoy.
The festival capped what has been a milestone month for Martin. Earlier in August, he performed in French Guiana alongside his band JaMDonz, drawing massive crowds despite the language barrier – a reminder, he said, that music transcends borders. August 9 was officially declared Christopher Martin Day in New York. “You have to remember you know, I come from a small district in rural St. Catherine and if you were to tell me these things would have been bestowed on me I woulda laugh. It’s just the Almighty a work through mi life, and for the mayor to see fit to give me that citation it’s really a blessing. Truly it’s a great joy and honour for me.”
Martin revealed that his next album is nearly complete, with release targeted for late September or October.
Grace Ambassador Ding Dong closed the show, with an explosive set with the Ravers that had the crowd on their feet throughout. In what was the most moving moment of the evening, Ding Dong paused his performance to lead a heartfelt tribute to former GraceKennedy Group CEO Don Wehby. With a giant photo of Wehby on screen, Vanessa Bling surprised the audience, joining Ding Dong onstage to sing their song Glory, as thousands of patrons raised their phone lights in unison. The moment culminated with the presentation of a special portrait to the Grace team in Wehby’s honour.
“This year’s festival was especially close to my heart because it’s the first event since Mr. Wehby’s passing,” said Ding Dong. “I have to big up one of my idols, one of my inspirations. Him tek a risk with me, a ghetto yute from Nannyville. Being able to honour him on stage tonight made this performance more than just entertainment – it was family.”
