Shyne Blasts UDP Leadership

Former Leader of the Opposition Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow has launched a sharp criticism of the current leadership of the United Democratic Party, claiming that many UDP supporters across the country are dissatisfied with the party’s direction under Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar-Panton.  In a strongly worded statement circulated today, Barrow said that during his recent travels across Belize, many UDP supporters expressed frustration and disappointment with what they described as the party’s lack of vision and ineffective opposition politics. He claimed that supporters no longer view the current UDP as a viable alternative to the ruling administration.  Barrow also criticized the UDP’s Belize Rural Central candidate, former Deputy Commissioner of Police Edward Broaster, accusing him of focusing on political stunts related to fuel prices instead of presenting solutions to the country’s crime situation. According to Barrow, the opposition has failed to outline any meaningful crime-fighting strategy despite ongoing public concern over national security.  The former opposition leader further accused the current UDP leadership of lacking preparation and direction along with a failure to inspire confidence among supporters and voters.  His statement today, comes a few weeks after he declared to Love News that he intends to return to active politics in Belize.  According to Shyne, his inspiration came as he participated in a mentorship program for kids earlier this year in Brooklyn, New York.

It is to be noted that recent issues surrounding the UDP leadership resurfaced upon the resignation of Omar Figueroa of Cayo North coupled with the western caucus’ upset over the removal of Alberto August from the Elections and Boundaries Commission.
