When the Garnett Silk Foundation hosts its charity event in Mandeville on April 26, singer Rad Dixon will be one of the artistes performing. Dixon is currently on a musical high, enjoying the feedback from critics and fans alike about Sweet Caroline, the most recent single to be released from his upcoming album, Humility.
Sharing that he is “looking forward immensely to performing at the Garnett Silk tribute, while outlining the respect he has for the late singer. Dixon also enthused about the response to Sweet Caroline.
“It has been amazing! Fans really love the fresh reggae spin we put on Sweet Caroline. It’s such a classic song, and I wanted to bring a new vibe to it while still respecting the original. People have been telling me how much they enjoy the rhythm, the energy, and the way it makes them feel. Even some critics have pointed out how well reggae and this song blend together ... so that’s been really encouraging,” Dixon said of the solid hit song, which was written and released by Neil Diamond in 1969.
Although he has not yet had the opportunity to perform the song live on stage, “[he] is definitely looking forward to it” and is confident that he will get the crowd singing along and feeling good, because “the energy of performing it live is going to be something special”.
A singer and songwriter known for his deep-rooted social commentary in music, Dixon’s career began in earnest in 2012 when he moved to Florida, where he has since established himself as a notable figure on the reggae scene.
Humility is set to drop early 2025, and it follows his critically acclaimed 2023 TasJay Productions offering, Hard Times.
He described the album as being “packed with vibes” and outlined there are a few more songs lined up to be released and elaborated on the production process.
“There’s something for everyone — some uplifting reggae, some deep storytelling, and a little bit of everything in between. The production process has been a great journey. A lot of passion and hard work went into making this album what it is. I was blessed to work with some incredible musicians and producers who helped bring the vision to life. Tasjay Productions played a huge role in making it all happen, and I’m grateful for their support and expertise. Everyone who worked on this project brought their best, and you can hear that in the music,” a grateful Dixon said.
Reflecting on the album title, he emphasised that it is close to his heart and crucial to the journey that he has undertaken.
“It’s about staying grounded, giving thanks, and spreading love and light wherever I go. Humility is the foundation of my music and my life,” stated Dixon, who is originally from the district of Dunsinane, in Manchester.
Delving further into the name, Dixon, focused on a theme that has become a hard-to-miss thread throughout his successful career — the hidden depths of his potent message music.
“‘Humility’ is like an ocean … you think you see the surface, but there’s so much more beneath. Every track carries a message, a story, or a lesson. I want listeners to feel the vibes, but also to think, to reflect, and to connect with the deeper meanings. It’s music for the soul, not just the ears,” the passionate Dixon said.
“And I’m excited to share that there are some surprise collaborations with top reggae artistes. We’ve got some real legends and rising stars joining in, bringing their unique flavours to the mix. It’s going to be a true celebration of reggae music,” he promised.
