Sir Colville Young Museum Set to Open in September

The Sir Colville Norbert Young Museum is inching closer to reality, with officials confirming that the facility is on track to officially open during this year’s September celebrations. The update came during the Belize Scout Foundation’s second directors’ meeting for 2026, held on Saturday at the Sir Colville N. Young Building conference room.  During the meeting, directors discussed several major agenda items, including financial updates, national scouting initiatives, and preparations for the museum’s grand opening. Foundation representatives explained that the museum has been under development for the past three years and is expected to serve as an important space, preserving the legacy and contributions of Sir Colville Young while also supporting the country’s scouting and educational history.  Additionally, the directors have endorsed plans for a gala fundraising event to be hosted jointly by the Scout Association and the Belize Scout Foundation.  The meeting also included a financial report which shows that the foundation currently manages an investment portfolio totaling more than five hundred and fifteen thousand dollars. Officials say the quarterly interest generated from those investments helps fund scouting programs and community initiatives across Belize, including the ongoing development of Camp Oakley.  Another highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a one-thousand-dollar grant to the Sixth Corozal Methodist Scout Group for its “Mission Grace” initiative. The project, led by Venture Scouts, is aimed at assisting elderly members of the Methodist Church by helping them attend Sunday services and providing breakfast afterward over a three-month period.  Chairman of the Belize Scout Foundation, Rene Villanueva Sr., presented the grant to Group Scout Leader Gwendolyn Monima and Venture Scout Nuri Aldana.///////
