Sister Nancy’s Bam Bam has officially been certified Gold in the United Kingdom. The recognizing acknowledges streams ad sales of more than 400,000 units in combined sales and streams as of May 8, 2026.
Bam Bam becomes Nancy’s first Gold certification in the UK and the latest milestone adds to what has become a historic resurgence for the Dancehall pioneer, who last year emerged as the highest-selling female Jamaican artist in the United States.
Sister Nancy secured her first-ever appearance on Billboard’s album sales driven Year-End Reggae Albums Artists chart, landing at No. 9 and becoming the only woman to make the list in 2025.
More than four decades after its original release, Nancy’s classic 1982 debut album One Two experienced a major revival in 2025 following a limited-edition vinyl reissue for Record Store Day. Released by VPAL Music and Techniques, the collector’s pressing quickly sold out during an in-store appearance at VP Records in Queens, New York, where fans lined up in heavy rain to meet the legendary deejay.
The renewed interest pushed One Two onto the Billboard Reggae Albums chart for the first time in Sister Nancy’s career, peaking at No. 3 on the chart dated April 26, 2025.
“Bam Bam,” widely regarded as one of the most influential Dancehall recordings ever made. The song has been sampled and referenced by major artists including Kanye West, Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, and Jay-Z, helping introduce the track to multiple generations of listeners worldwide.
Its cultural reach has also expanded through film and television placements in productions including No Time to Die, Ozark, and Dexter.
Born Ophlin Russell in Papine, Jamaica, Sister Nancy broke barriers as one of the first women to rise to prominence in the male-dominated Dancehall space. Recorded with producer Winston Riley at Channel One Studios, One Two has since become a foundational work in reggae and Dancehall history.
